Earthjustice Raffle, 2017

This is what humanity looks like (closed)

Earthjustice is the premier nonprofit public interest environmental law organization.
Raffle of “This is what humanity looks like“raising $3000.

This Glass Cathedral was inspired by first The Women's March 2017, and the people who'd been moved to action to protect our rights, our diversity and our planet.

I made one protester every day for Trump's first 100 days culminating on the Climate March on 29 April 2017. The original 100 protestor artwork was raffled, raising over $3000 for Earthjustice.

The title comes from a 'call and response' chant I heard at San Francisco airport in January 2017, protesting the pending federal Muslim Ban.

People were chanting call and response. I’m not really the calling type (my kids would disagree) but I am the crying type and the call and response of "Show me what humanity looks like" - "This is what humanity looks like" had me weeping. I found myself calling: “Show me what America looks like!” because that question was really burning in me. The crowd answered my call: “This is what America looks like”. No doubt there is not just one America, but there is this America, this version of humanity, and it’s the inspiration for this project.

I now make custom "This is what humanity looks like" Glass Cathedrals. People choose the signs from my huge selection, collected over the last few years from annual Women's Marches, Climate marches, BLM and Gun Control marches. Each commission is therefore unique and can contain from 15 up to 100 mini-protestors.
